Although our dentist and team will do everything possible to help you enjoy your natural teeth for life, there may be times when a tooth needs to be removed in order to preserve the overall health or appearance of your smile.
Dr. Victor J. Dongo may suggest a tooth extraction if a tooth is so badly damaged or decayed that crowns or fillings are no longer viable treatment options. If you have too many teeth, a condition known as crowding, an extraction could relieve the problem. It may also be the first step in an orthodontic treatment. If your wisdom teeth are beginning to erupt, and especially if they are impacted, our dentist will want to see you for a wisdom tooth removal.
After your visit, we will give you instructions for your recovery and aftercare. These instructions will help you remain comfortable after your appointment and avoid a condition known as dry socket. Dr. Dongo will also want to see you for a follow-up visit and to discuss your restoration options, if necessary.
